10 Films With Amazing Casts That Should Have Been SO MUCH Better
8. American Hustle
Cast: Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Louis CKWhat It Could Have Been Everyone was getting excited about this one before it was even released due to the period setting, respected director and INCREDIBLE cast. In fact, such was the hullabaloo caused by the incredible ensemble that people forgot it was an average movie even after watching it. With the look and subject matter, audiences crossed their fingers for a film of Scorcese-like quality. The Reality Audiences were so eaten up deciding who was the better actor out of Bale, Cooper, Lawrence et al that they failed to realise this was all style and no substance. Even the usually acceptable running time of two hours seemed bloated here, and it was so obvious how reliant the film was on its period setting, spending way too much time on how the film looked. The film seemed to place aesthetics over story. In the end, there's little to say about it other than, 'look how curly they made Bradley Cooper's hair!' and 'boy, did Christian Bale put on a lot of weight for this movie!'. Perhaps unsurprisingly the film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. Interestingly it failed to win any. Perhaps the interim period allowed critics to see through the casting and see the film for what it is: a decent film, but a bit light, and certainly overrated due to its big name stars.
