10 Films With Multiple Different Cuts

5. Superman II

While Superman II was released to widescale acclaim, there was still a feeling of "what if?" among fans, who wondered what the film would have looked like if Richard Donner had been allowed to stay on the project and realise his full ideas and not been sacked midway through production.

While the story of how Richard Donner was replaced is a long and confusing story that spans many different people and changes with every person who talks about it, fans were eventually given their wish to realise Donner's full film in 2006.

While veteran actor Marlon Brando had been originally cast in the film he was eventually cut owing to a disagreement with the film's producers, however, Donner's cut included all of Brando's footage, long thought to be lost.

The difference between this and the original is very different from the Director's Cuts you usually see. This Director's Cut turned the film into an almost totally different movie! The Director's Cut features the original opening and the original ending, alternate takes and scenes from alternate camera angles, and deleted scenes featuring Marlon Brando.

The re-release saw huge critical appraisal, seeing the somewhat campy stylings of the original replaced with far grittier and more mature scenes, which were praised highly.

It's rare to see a film that has a Director's Cut so well thought of as well as the original, but audiences were treated to two great films by two great directors and we had a blast with both!

Ben Maples hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
