9. The Hangover Part II
The idea that a group of lads go out, get royally hammered, lose someone and then get caught up in a drugs scandal, amongst other out of the ordinary events, is plausible. The idea that this same group of lads go out, get royally hammered, lose someone and then run into the same member of a drugs heist that they did two years ago, amongst other out of the ordinary events, that isnt incredibly believable. The Hangover was a film driven by its fun plot and absurdities. The Hangover Part II is exactly the same, and thats where the film falters. Theres no need to rely on the gimmick for another instalment, let alone make another instalment. Audiences will turn up and the film will make money, but it was savaged by critics for being more of the same. A lot of the humour relies on the sheer absurdity and shock value of some events, but that doesnt aid the film in any way.
