10 Films You Didn’t Realise Became TV Shows

1. Delta House

It should come as no surprise that there were attempts to cash-in on the success of National Lampoon’s Animal House, as it was one of the highest grossing movies of 1978, third only to Grease and Superman the movie.

It only took a year for a television series to be conjured up with the hopes of capitalising on the success of the film, the result, Delta House, which was released in 1979. The film was a success thanks to the breakthrough of John Belushi, and its crass humour. The show however, stripped these elements away to appeal for a younger age demographic, alienating the audience that flocked to see the original movie.

The mainstream approach, as well as replacing Belushi’s character with his younger brother was enough for people to keep away from the show. It barely made it to 13 episodes before it was eventually scrapped. As well as the low ratings, the fact its producers and television bosses clashed throughout its short run ensured it didn’t make it to a second series.
