10 Films You Didn’t Realise Became TV Shows

2. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures

The Crow Stairway To Heaven
Fox

At one point in the late 80s and early 90s, the characters Bill and Ted, played by Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter were just about everywhere. After the first film became a hit, there were two attempts to bring them to the small screen, a video game tie-in and believe it or not, they even had their own line of cereal.

The first series based on the time travelling duo was the enjoyable, yet short-lived animated series, which ran for two seasons from 1990 to 1991. Reeves and Winter returned to voice their characters and it the first season was even produced by Hanna-Barbera. It enjoyed moderate success, but was soon cut due to the release of the live-action series.

The second revival proved to be anything but "excellent". For the new series, Bill and Ted were recast by two unknown actors who tried and failed to recreate the chemistry between Winter and Reeves. What worked well for the film ultimately didn’t work for the series, which instead felt like a cheap rehash with two annoying leads who offered nothing new to the roles. The show received extremely negative reviews by just about everyone who had the misfortune of watching it, and it was soon cancelled after 7 episodes.
