10 Films You Loved As A Teen, But Should Never Watch Again

7. She's All That

Miramax Films

Perhaps the most fondly remembered 90s teen flick relying on the 'ugly duckling' trope, She's All That was a high-school fairytale - wholesome to the point of sickliness.

The premise sees forgotten 90s heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. taken on a bet that he can turn artsy, nerdy Rachael Leigh Cook into prom queen within a matter of weeks. Watched as a teen, the film was a sweet tale of how even an unremarkable girl can get the school stud if she tries hard enough. But there's a more troublesome message beneath it all.

Sure, Prinze Jr. falls for the nerd, but only at the point where she no longer looks like one. The more physically attractive Cook gets as the film progresses, the more Prinze falls for her, leaving us with the message that if a girl wants to get her guy, she can just be herself on the inside, but on the outside she better slap on some make-up, take off those glasses and shorten that dress. Or the Grease Effect, to give it its scientific name.

While the original is best avoided by today's teens, here's hoping that the rumoured remake will be a bit more progressive.
