10 Films You Loved As A Teen, But Should Never Watch Again

For every kid who, like me, spent most of their early teen years in front of a computer screen, Hackers was the first film to say that it was cool to be a geek (though you should probably learn to rollerskate as well).

Hackers, which saw sexy cyber-geeks Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller harness their hacking skills to save the world, was one of the first films to empower teenagers with modern technology. It depicted the computer geek as a rebel, a hero in a new age where the keyboard is mightier than the gun, and was probably a major part of Anonymous' inspiration. Keyboard warriors of the world, unite!

Sadly, it was a film very much of its era, and there is some historical interest to seeing a tech-based thriller that's so firmly entrenched in the 90s. But its nineties-ness means that Hackers hasn't aged well. Even a teen watching it today would be unable to handle its lurid aesthetic and would be too cynical to handle its cliche-ridden script. Hackers was a film of a moment, and that moment is best left in the past.
