10 Films You Only Ever Remember Seeing The Trailer For

2. Ma

Blumhouse Productions' psycological thriller Ma was shown in cinemas from May of last year, starring Academy Award winning actress Octavia Spencer as a loner neighbour who seeks to gain friends by hosting teens birthday parties in her basement. The trailer was incredibly action packed, featuring the actress turning to insanity as the kids uncover the mysteries within her house and her past.

The film however held very little suspense and even fewer scares, leading up to the tense moments with no pay off. Critics slated the slow pacing and claimed that Spencer was the only saving grace in keeping interest. To many, it seemed that the movie should have just been secluded to what the trailer promised and that the narrative itself could have been cut by at least half. There were little to no hide-behind-your-pillow moments and the actress was drowned out by the cringe teenage acting that dominated the screen.

Any action, suspense or jumps that audiences were promised in the trailer only came in the third act of the film itself, where most would have already switched off.
