10 Films You Only Ever Remember Seeing The Trailer For

3. The Goldfinch

Last year also saw the release of The Goldfinch, a movie based on the book of the same name. The film that dropped in mid September starred many big names, including Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort, Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson and Nicole Kidman. However, it was one of the biggest flops of the year.

The trailer showed the protagonist suffering trauma as a child during a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As he reaches his adult life and keeps with him a painting of a goldfinch bird from the gallery, he attempts to solve the source behind the tragedy in a coming of age narrative. Despite the popularity of the novel, audiences were confused with the tone of the story and plot points that followed.

The duration of the film came to a sluggishly long two hours and a half and received only 24 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with some fans claiming it ruined the source material. Critics called it a disaster of a film and it received one of the lowest box office revenues of 2019, although anticipated to do much better due to the stars that featured.
