Reiko was the plucky reporter who investigated the cursed videotape that killed her niece, discovering the history behind it while trying to rid herself of the hex that would kill her in seven days. She succeeds, but her ex-husband is the one who gets killed instead because he watched a copy of it. She then copies the tape again to rid her son of the curse by showing it to her father instead, which is a bit morally dubious.

Her dad dies and she goes on the run with her kid, but Sadako isn’t done with them yet, with her son being mildly possessed by the vengeful spirit. She tries with the help of some new characters to rid him of it, only for her to get hit by a truck while trying to chase after him across a busy road - should have checked the lights first.

Her son is eventually saved in the end though, so all that effort wasn’t for nought.
