10 Flaws Which Prevented Max: Fury Road From Being Perfect

5. Tom Hardy's Indeterminate Accent

Taking over the lead role in a successful cult franchise with as long a legacy as Mad Max is never going to be easy, and Tom Hardy certainly had his work cut out when it came to taking over the role of Max Rockatansky in the shadow of Mel Gibson. Thankfully his performance is on the whole as good as anyone could have hoped for - the stoicism of Gibson's incarnation remains there but Hardy brings his own physicality to the role and demonstrates once and for all that he's more than capable of playing the action hero. The only aspect of his performance which lets it down is the indeterminate nature of his accent, which seems to veer to and from an Australian accent as the film progresses. Still, since he's a doer rather than a talker this doesn't happen often, and on the whole it certainly doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the film.
