Of course, one thing the studios are surely considering is just rebooting the franchise again. If the first film made so many mistakes, is it really worth carrying on down that road? A lot of studio executives are probably weighing up the possibility of another reboot right this second. With the box office takings for Genisys failing to break any records, though, there would surely be diminishing returns if another reboot were attempted; wouldn't audiences would be even less likely to return for another Terminator movie if they knew it included yet another recast John Connor? Its more likely that a perfect sequel with rave reviews to greet it could turn the franchise around. It might be easier to reboot, but a strong follow-up that corrected the mistakes of Genisys would arguably win more viewer good will than another sci-fi reboot. But a sequel can still rejig the franchise. If Genisys sequel was seen as a standalone instalment that reintroduced some a major sense of danger, removed the 12A certificate and took some interesting turns with the characters maybe, just maybe, audiences would be back.
