10 Fool-Proof Ways To Save The Terminator Franchise

2. Stop Planning Three Films At Once

This one€™s the biggie €“ Skydance needs to stop planning so far in advance. Although the current cinematic landscape is full of sprawling franchises and shared universes, none of them came into being by being as pre-planned as Genisys. The Marvel Cinematic Universe burst into being with Iron Man€™s post-credits sting, but the film itself was a standalone adventure. This lesson could have been learnt from James Cameron€™s original The Terminator. That film was never presumed to be a success. When it turned out to be a hit, those involved came up with a way to continue the story. They dreamed up Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which remains one of the very best sequels ever made. Genisys, though, put all its eggs in the multi-film planning basket. They made a film where Arnie€™s past isn€™t known, and Skynet€™s plan is ambiguous at best, and didn€™t bother answering any of these questions. Instead, they thought they€™d save a few revelations for future instalments. Next time around, the focus has to be on making one good film. Focusing on getting the characters, the villain, the effects and the core narrative right. If it works, you can worry about the sequel later. Or they€™ll end up having to follow this next path€
