4. Redeem John Connor
The big twist of Terminator Genisys wasnt much of a twist in the end. Thats thanks to Paramounts marketing people, who decided to release a trailer that spoiled the surprise. The cat was out of the bag John Connor becomes a Terminator. As narrative decisions go, this ones as ballsy as they come. With the surprise spoiled, there was still a glimmer of hope that they might do something interesting with John once Skynet had turned him bad. Nothing in the script gave him much meaty material to chew on, though. Instead, he became an uninspiring villain for the third act, chasing the central trio around and trying to kill them. In the end, Arnies Pops defeated him by using energy from the time machine. Arnie survived, but were led to believe that John Connor died. In the next film, its conceivable that Sarah, Kyle and Pops might try to save the human John. After his character was turned bad and later killed in Genisys, this iconic sci-fi hero deserves some big screen redemption. Skynet are bound to rebuild after Genisys, so why cant John Connor come back too? This is a universe with time travel, after all.
