7. The Wicker Man (2006) Avoids Important Details From The Original; Ensures That Is Has No Reason To Exist
Even if you haven't seen The Wicker Man remake, which starred Nicolas Cage in what is perhaps his most hilarious role to date (read as: unintentionally hilarious), you're bound to have seen a few clips from the movie on YouTube, at least - one of which has our favourite actor going up against a hell of a lot of bees. Laughs aside, though, Neil LaBute's Godawful Wicker Man remake might have been kind of interesting had they adopted any of the appropriate material from the original movie. Instead, they decided to get rid of it all, and went in a different direction. That direction was "insanity." The original flick had a virginal policeman named Howie investigating the disappearance of a young girl on a small island off the coast of Scotland. Eventually, it's revealed that the locals have been playing with him for the sum of the movie, and he's actually been selected as a sacrifice in a pagan ritual. The Cage version doesn't want to have anything to do with this plot: instead, it sets up the same premise but lacks any reason for the events to follow through. As in... why is Nicolas Cage doing what he's doing? If he's not a virgin, what's the real point? Why him? What is going on? These gaping logical holes only serve to remind you that the remake is a futile effort - and that Nic Cage is great fun to watch in a bad movie.
