4. Nightmare (1981)
Originally gaining notoriety after being banned in the UK and dubbed a video nasty Nightmare is fits into the history of film somewhere between Stand by Me and Taxi Driver. Made on a miniscule budget the film follows a mental patient (another one) as he fights for his sanity. His story is paralleled with a young boy across the country struggling to find acceptance within his family. The acting may be clunky but Nightmare actively seeks to investigate its own time and the impact our over sexualized culture on the individual.
