5. A Hellboy Trilogy
Sony PicturesThere are a number of superhero franchises that died a death (Christopher Reeve's Superman), some that never got off the ground (Daredevil) and some that were just plain rubbish and required a reboot (The Fantastic Four). Then there is Hellboy, a series loved by many but never hitting the big league due its nontraditional hero and narrative. Here at Whatculture, we recently looked at
5 reasons Hellboy 3 needs to happen. Both the fans and series lead Ron Perlman want a third film and there is a need for closure of the ongoing story. Audiences still don't know what the fallout of Liz saving Hellboy will mean for humanity and that consequence would make for a stunning final act. The second Hellboy did well at the box office, making $160 million and giving Director Guillermo del Toro his second biggest box office opening weekend behind his later Pacific Rim. Given how much del Toro is in demand, the six year gap since Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Ron Perlman's age, time is running out to wrap up this innovative superhero saga.
