3. Star Trek: The Next Generation On The Big Screen
Paramount PicturesWhile J.J. Abram's Star Trek may have rebooted the franchise for the masses in 2009, it did, like the Spider-Man franchise, put a nail in the coffin that was the Next Generation series. Considering this era brought us the crew of the Enterprise D and E, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, there were many more stories still to tell. Star Trek: Nemesis, may have not met our expectations but neither did it serve as the fitting closure that Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country brought to Captain Kirk and his crew. Kirk facing the Klingons and dealing with the anger over the death of his son. Spock finding his successor in Valeris (and then discovering she was a traitor). The new era of peace for the Federation with the Khitomer Accords and finally the last voyage of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A. As the cast's signatures appeared at the end we knew this was the end. Captain Picard and his crew got no such send off. Data died and Riker and Troi married, leaving for his own ship, the Titan. But it wasn't enough closure to seven seasons and four films; not to mention the other fourteen seasons of story lines this time period brought us. To close that franchise off we needed to witness the final voyage of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, perhaps united with the crews of Deep Space Nine and Voyager for one final hurrah. Instead it was cast aside in a bold effort to make Star Trek accessible for the masses. But what about us Star Trek fans that were already there?
