10 Fourth Movies That Ruined A Great Trilogy
4. Shrek Forever After
As film trilogies for kids go, Shrek is up there with the best of them.
From grumpy loner in the first film to family man hero in the third, Shrek the ogre goes on quite the journey across the first three films. He also picks up some friends along the way, including a talking donkey, a sword-fighting cat, and a wooden puppet who likes wearing ladies underwear.
Hey, who are we to judge?
None of those friends are present in the fourth Shrek movie though, at least not in the way you remember them.
Shrek Forever After from 2010 is a classic "character wishes they'd never been born" story. Shrek makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, who transports him to a world where he never existed. Whilst characters like Donkey, Puss in Boots, and Fiona are in this world, they don't recognise Shrek and are basically entirely different.
This movie took everything that people liked about Shrek and got rid of it. The characters fans had grown to love over the years had been completely reset, making it much harder to enjoy the comedy that surrounded them.
Ah well, at least fat Puss in Boots was mildly amusing.
