10 Fourth Movies That Ruined A Great Trilogy
5. The Bourne Legacy
Call us crazy, but isn't the whole point of the Bourne franchise that it's about Jason Bourne?
Played by Matt Damon, Bourne is the focal point of the original three movies and the fifth release, which is literally called Jason Bourne. So what about film number four? What the hell happened there?
Damon essentially refused to come back when it was revealed that Paul Greengrass wouldn't be directing, so producers needed to come up with a plan and fast.
That plan was called Jeremy Runner.
The Hawkeye actor was cast as a brand-new character called Aaron Cross, who is caught up in the fallout from the second Bourne movie. So, it's not really a Bourne movie then, is it?
A very small number of characters from previous movies return for this one, but none of the big ones do. Sure, Renner is a star and he got some support from Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton, but the series is literally called Bourne!
How can you do a Bourne movie without the Bourne?
Legacy felt like a shameless cash grab, an attempt to sell audiences something dishonestly. It was a fine film, but it had no right to be called what it was.
