10 Franchise Reboots That Were Better Than The Original
7. Dredd
2012 saw the reboot of the Judge Dredd movie series. The original picture starred Sylvester Stallone in a misguided effort, to put it mildly. The reboot starred Karl Urban in perfect-casting as the Judge, and the movie itself was rock n' roll eye-porn. Sadly, we're unlikely to ever get a sequel.
That doesn't mean we can't celebrate the awesomeness that was the 2012 movie. It was a far more faithful adaption of the source material than the campy 80's Judge Dredd movie, as well as being extremely R-rated.
The movie's relatively low-budget meant it was something of a Die Hard homage, with the Judge infiltrating a high-rise in order to take-down a drug lord. And, while it would have been nice to see more of Mega City One, the claustrophobic setting was perfect for the super-gritty movie.
Karl Urban's Judge Dredd may well go down as the most faithful adaption ever but that didn't result in big money. While the movie was a critical hit, scoring 78% compared to the original's paltry 17%, it didn't even managed to crack $50 million at the box office. Meaning this cult classic will have to stay in the cult for the foreseeable future.
