10 Franchise Reboots That Were Better Than The Original
6. A Nightmare On Elm Street
Freddy Kreuger may be the most badass horror movie slasher of all-time. However the series produced only one good movie: the original. Everything that followed was mediocre to unwatchable. The 2010 reboot was better than any original Elm Street sequel and was unfairly judged by critics and fans alike.
This may come as blasphemous but, while Robert Englund is iconic, Jackie Earle Haley's turn as Kreuger is more horrifying and befitting of the character. The gravelly voice, slow movements, creepy laugh, and updated face scarring made him far more intimidating that the original. Rooney Mara as the teenage foil for Freddy was a very underrated performance, and the movie tackled the psychological effects of sleep deprivation to have the protagonist's fighting on multiple fronts.
Back in the 2000's, we saw remakes of Friday The 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Hills Have Eyes, to name a few, but the one that truly improved upon the original series was A Nightmare on Elm Street. It made Freddy terrifying for the first time, added some much-needed backstory, wrestled with psychology, and featured some top-notch acting. The movie was ravaged by fans and critics but give it another shot and see how wrong you were.
