5. Inside Out
The darkest thing about this movie for kids isn't the bit where the beloved imaginary elephant commits suicide in order to save someone who has basically forgotten them. It's not that bit. There is something even darker and more upsetting in this perky, colourful comedy for the whole family. As the movie progresses and Joy and Sadness are both absent for an extended period, Riley, the main character, is gradually overtaken by Disgust and Anger. And then...she shuts down entirely. Her emotions abandon her and she become numb. It's a stunningly moving portrayal of depression played out as cartoon fantasy.
