In the midst of the excellent LeBron James line-reads and the surprising moralising about women in their 30s having casual sex, Trainwreck tells a heartrending story of a broken family. The scene in which Brie Larson's Kim tells her sister (Amy Schumer) and their dad (Colin Quinn) that she's pregnant takes a particularly dark turn. Though Kim already has a stepson who she considers her child, her father is excited about her pregnancy because it means he'll get a "real" grandchild. This is a hugely devastating conversation and Kim and her father never really resolve their differences before he dies. Pretty brutal for a movie with a climactic cheerleading scene.
