10 Futuristic Sci-Fi Movies That Now Take Place In The Past

2. Back To The Future Part II

Blade Runner
Universal Pictures

Back to the Future Part II has had such a long-lasting legacy and impact on fans that the date Marty McFly arrived in 2015 sparked celebrations around the world when it finally came to pass on October 21st five years ago, as well as the fact that people are still trying to come up with a way to perfect hoverboard technology over 30 years later.

While we don't have hoverboards quite yet, much to the annoyance of a lot of people, the rest of the movie's futuristic technology didn't turn out to be so far-fetched. Apart from time travel obviously, which is the most important part of the entire franchise, but that's another story.

Automated technology and biometric scanners are pretty much everywhere these days, although people do still have to tie their own shoelaces. We didn't get Max Spielberg's Jaws 19 in 3D, but the Star Wars, X-Men, Halloween and Friday the 13th franchises got well into the double digits, while the likes of Jonas Cuaron, Sofia Coppola, Jason Reitman and more followed in the footsteps of their famous directorial fathers.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
