Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson spent years chasing down a superhero role, only to eventually be cast as Shazam villain Black Adam, a character fans spent years putting his name forward for. Right now, his solo movie is expected to be released next Christmas, but shooting - which was scheduled to begin this July - has been postponed as a result of current world events.

Black Adam is a unique character in the sense that he can be viewed as both a bad guy and an anti-hero, and it sounds like Johnson is planning to take him down the latter route. Ultimately, his big screen debut is going to lead to a clash with Zachary Levi's Shazam, a team-up movie which a) might include Superman, and b) has the potential to be absolutely epic.

Set during World War II, the Black Adam movie promises to flesh out the history of the DC Extended Universe, while also introducing us to the Justice Society of America, a team that pre-dates the Justice League (we'll get to them a little later, though). Johnson is a guaranteed box office draw, and acting someone with his charisma to this comic book world is bound to shake things up.
