Wonder Woman 1984 was supposed to arrive in cinemas in June, but Warner Bros. has pushed it back to August. The studio remains adamant that it will receive a big screen release rather than a VOD one, but that could change depending on what happens over the coming weeks. Whenever we get to see it, there's one character in the sequel who promises to bring a lot of the DC Extended Universe.

Played by Pedro Pascal, Maxwell Lord is ruthless businessman with a desire for power, and that will come his way in the form of an ancient artefact which grants wishes. Admittedly, it doesn't sound great (neither does the rest of the plot), but this villain could leave a lasting impact on Diana Prince.

In the comics, Wonder Woman is left with no other choice than to put an end to Lord's reign of terror by breaking his neck and killing him. That's a decision which sees her branded a murderer, and if something similar happens in Wonder Woman 1984, it could go some way in explaining why the Amazon Warrior ended up essentially going until hiding before she resurfaced in the present day.

It would also mean that she has to answer for her past actions in a future big screen adventure...
