10 Game-Changing New Characters Coming To DCEU
The DC Extended is entering a new era, and these characters could change EVERYTHING.
The DC Extended Universe (which, believe it or not, remains the only name for a franchise without an official title) has been completely reshaped by Warner Bros. since Zack Snyder's films failed to resonate with audiences. What was once a dark and brooding world now feels a lot more like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we're going to see a lot of very different tales over the next few years.
It's still too soon to say how well this new era of DC Comics adaptations will be received; Shazam! did decent numbers, whereas Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey flopped. Joker, meanwhile, felt more in line with the tone of Snyder's films and ended up earning over $1 billion. The DCEU's chances of success aren't clear, but something we can get excited about is how many new characters are set to be introduced.
With the launch of so many new franchises - including James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, The Flash, Black Adam, and some huge new HBO Max TV shows - we're going to meet faces from the comic books we've been waiting to see for years, alongside some whose live-action debuts are definitely unexpected.
With that in mind, we're taking a closer look at the heroes and villains who are set to change the DCEU forever, exploring where they'll be introduced and why they'll be game-changers for this shared world!
10. Reverse-Flash
Despite a somewhat troubling video doing the rounds of star Ezra Miller allegedly attacking a fan, The Flash is still happening at Warner Bros. and recently got a new release date (June 3rd, 2022). It's been through multiple scripts and directors, but the latest rumours point to Reverse-Flash being the lead villain in a movie it's believed will be titled "Flashpoint."
Eobard Thawne hails from the future and was the ultimate Flash fanboy before becoming his greatest rival. In the comic books, he uses his time-travelling abilities to toy with Barry Allen, and even goes back and changes his entire life by murdering the hero's mother. The Flash tries to undo that, breaking the timeline and creating an apocalyptic world where Aquaman and Wonder Woman are at war.
We don't know much of that will make it to the big screen, but Reverse-Flash is a villain who can literally reboot the entire DC Extended Universe, something which may be necessary now this shared world is without its original Batman (and Superman). Interestingly, it's thought that this version of Eobard will, in fact, end up being a woman.
