10 Gaping Plot-Holes Hollywood Thought You'd Miss

7. Why Does Doc Ock Try To Kill Peter? (Spider-Man 2)

Here's a scene that looks freaking awesome when you're watching it - how many times do we all remember watching that trailer? - but is completely dumb and nonsensical when you go back and think about it. When Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) is told by Harry Osborne (James Franco) that the only way to find Spider-Man is to confront Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire), what does Ock do? He tracks Parker down to a nice little cafe, where he's eating with the lovely Mary-Jane (Kirsten Dunst), and lobs a car at him. Wait a sec. So, to find out who Spider-Man is, you try to squish the only guy who seems to know where he is? Given that Ock isn't aware at this point that Parker is Spider-Man, the logic in Ock's mind should be that flinging the car will kill Peter, which is exactly not what he should be doing. It's just good fortune that Peter turned out to be Spidey and was able to save himself and MJ from a nasty demise. Picking Peter up with his robotic tentacles would surely have sufficed? Imagine if, as Ock thought, Peter really wasn't Spidey; Ock would have to interrogate a pile of blood and guts. Try and watch the film again without being bothered by this.
