4. Eagles Are Not Man's Best Friend - The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring

The Lord Of The Rings is an epic journey, a monumental task of storytelling that Peter Jackson somehow managed to successfully adapt while still remaining true to the source material. Unfortunately, being faithful to the text means that any issues with the original story also translate onto the big screen. Each step of Frodo's journey to Mordor is fraught with peril from the outset. The fact that he even made it is somewhat of a miracle. Now just imagine if there was an easier way for Frodo to reach his goal in a fraction of the time. Imagine flying creatures if you will, ones who have already befriended Gandalf and would be both willing and able to carry Frodo on his journey, free from the dangers below. Imagine giant eagle-like birds capable of performing such a task. If only there were... oh wait. Why didn't Gandalf just ask his eagle friends to carry the group to Mordor at the very beginning? Too polite or just plain stupid? Admittedly Mordor may not be the safest place on earth, but the eagles could have just dropped them off around the corner and still saved the group a thousand blisters and awkward hobbit sing-alongs.
