10 Genius Edits That Totally Saved Movies
7. Missy Was Originally Knocked Out By Evil Bill's Fist (Not "Evil Breath") - Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey introduces two evil robot versions of Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves), and in one memorable scene Evil Bill ends up knocking out his former stepmother Missy (Amy Stock-Poynton) with what Ted refers to as "evil breath."
However, this entire exchange was significantly altered during post-production, as the original shot version of the scene saw Evil Bill punch Missy in the face in order to render her unconscious.
However, director Pete Hewitt ultimately decided that some violence against women didn't really suit the chilled-out, fun tone the movie was otherwise shooting for.
But Hewitt was in luck, because after punching Missy, Evil Bill actually knocked a dazed Missy over by blowing air in her face.
And so, all Hewitt had to do was cut out the punch, have Keanu Reeves record a sliver of dialogue saying, "Woah! Evil breath!," and a problematic aspect of the movie was ingeniously papered over.
