10 GENIUS Ways Recent Movies Pulled Off Insane Scenes
8. Erik's Death - Final Destination Bloodlines
Easily the most memorable death in Final Destination Bloodlines is that of fan favourite character Erik Campbell (Richard Harmon), who is killed when an MRI machine malfunctions, dragging him inside it before impaling him with a wheelchair, causing his body to brutally fold inwards as he's pulled further inside.
It's such an insane death that you'd surely assume the bulk of it was left to VFX artists to figure out, but this actually wasn't the case.
As some terrific behind-the-scenes footage reveals, Erik's death was achieved with a significant practical component.
Actor Richard Harmon was suspended in the air with wires while the lower half of his body was tucked inside the MRI machine, and a stunt performer was also laying down inside the MRI machine with their legs dangling out, giving the impression that we were looking at a single person being folded in half by the wheelchair.
Surprisingly enough the wheelchair was also a practical element, and though the gory outcome was of course enhanced in post, the nuts and bolts of the death scene were impressively pulled off in-camera. You love to see it.
