Unlike every other film on this list, there wasn't any special effects wizardry involved in accomplishing the mesmerising, emotional climax to Sean Baker's Best Picture-winning drama Anora.
In the final scene, Anora (Mikey Madison) breaks down sobbing in the arms of Russian henchman Igor (Yura Borisov), effectively the only person throughout the story to show her genuine kindness.
Though the Best Actress Oscar was Madison's to lose before this, this stunning final display surely clinched her the gong, and Madison prepared for it in a highly unique way.
Madison was dreading the scene in the weeks leading up to shooting it, knowing how emotionally demanding and pivotal to the film's ending it was, and in order to put herself in an appropriate headspace, turned to something deeply personal from her own life.
Madison listened to a voicemail from her father, the private contents of which she hasn't disclosed, before filming the scene, as provided her the extra push to give 110%. To say it worked is quite the understatement.
