10 Genuine Lessons Batman V Superman Can Learn From Batman & Robin

10. Don€™t Have Characters Just For The Sake Of It

The Mistake Batman And Robin Made: Thanks to then-sixty years of history, Batman had a pretty impressive supporting cast in print. And you can bet Schumacher was keen to get as many as possible onto the big screen. On top of the already established Batman, Robin, Alfred and Gordon, the film added Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and Bane to the mix, which for a film in the pre-X-Men superhero genre was bursting the seams. What Batman & Robin did so wrong, however, was that it failed to justify these inclusions. Bane was thrown in because his defining Knightfall arc was still in the cultural memory, but the film showed none of the characters smarts by forcing him into the regular henchman mould, while Batgirl was there simply to get in a female audience. Adapting these characters in name only was pointless. Will Dawn Of Justice Learn The Lesson? Batman V Superman's ever-growing roster of characters has been well covered, with what started out as a Man Of Steel sequel becoming a Justice League film in everything except name thanks to addition of many of the team's roster. Given the showdown title, it all seems a bit much. However, because many of these appearances (Aquaman, Cyborg) are merely to introduce the characters to the audience ahead of their own standalone films, it's unlikely it'll be quite as pointless as a mute Bane.
