10 Genuine Lessons Batman V Superman Can Learn From Batman & Robin

9. Don€™t Plan A Sequel Ahead Of Time

The Mistake Batman And Robin Made: Batman was such a bankable box office smash that before Batman & Robin was released a sequel was already well into pre-production. Batman Triumphant would have seen the Dynamic Duo go up against Scarecrow and Harley Quinn, with the former's mind-altering drugs allowing a cameo from Jack Nicholson's Joker. Sounds alright, until you remember it was Schumacher who would have been behind the camera. Of course, Batman & Robin was such a stinker that any sequel plans were immediately culled, wasting all the time and effort put into Triumphant (which would have probably stank anyway). However, Warner Bros. never actually stopped trying to develop another Batman - they kept soldiering on until Nolan delivered Batman Begins. Will Dawn Of Justice Learn The Lesson? It already hasn't. The subtitle revealed that this was leading to something bigger, and now Warner Bros. have announced the release slate for the DC Cinematic Universe all the way up to 2020. To make it worse, those nine movies, ranging from the sure-fire Justice League to risky Cyborg all hinge on this one movie. Of course, Batman V Superman is operating in a different landscape, with superheroes now the biggest draw in blockbuster cinema, making planning ahead in this manner much less of a gamble. There's still a strong lesson to be taken from deeming an idea too potent to fail, however.
