7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze - Ninja Rap

Thats right Vanilla Ice and all, Im going for it. I have never and will never make a secret of my love for the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. It was dark and yet it was fun and I still enjoy it immensely to this day. Sadly however its sequels suffered from a case of diminishing returns, with the second and third films dropping the darker tone of the original in favour of a more slapstick approach, probably inspired by the cartoon and the need to sell more toys. Toward the climax of the movie the turtles find themselves battling their fellow mutants Tokka and Rahzar. When their fight leads them into a club, its heroic singer Vanilla Ice decides to subvert any potential panic by improvising a Ninja inspired rap. Ice doesnt just invent raps, he saves lives. The turtles use the distraction to defeat their enemies and then revel in the attention. They begin to celebrate what they think is their victory, playing to the crowd and even joining MR. Vanilla on stage until The Shredder walks in to crash the party and remind us that there is a crappy movie to finish. I should not enjoy this scene; it is just another in a long line of bad and campy moments that make up this film but I cant help it, I love it. It goes against everything we were told that the turtles should be. They are ninjas and they should not be seen, yet there they are dancing on stage in a packed nightclub. However there is just something in me that cant hate on Vanilla Ice and the turtles being on the same stage, this one scene as dumb as it is managed to get to that ludicrous yet fun feel that the entire film was looking for and failing to achieve. Come on you know its catchy, Go Ninja, Go Ninja Go!
