10 Giant Movie Myths (And The Truth Behind Them)

3. Richard Gere's Extracurricular Hobbies

The Myth: It's perhaps one of the most famous myths to have persisted over the years, and there's very little reason to wonder why. Richard Gere, the famous Hollywood actor and Buddhist allegedly had to have a gerbil removed from his anus. We're not joking. The rumour has persisted ever since the 90s, when Gere was supposedly rushed to hospital to remove a Gerbil that he had inserted himself for the purposes of pleasure. Gere himself had always blamed Sylvester Stallone for starting the vicious rumour. The Truth: Bizarre? Yes. True? No. In 2012, car mechanic Wayne Matthews came forward to admit his role in the explosion of the false rumour. The man had told the story to his friend while he was still a child, in an attempt to discover just how gullible said friend truly was. Unfortunately for Gere, the rumour spread like wildfire and has plagued him ever since. It's a happy ending though, Gere has forgiven Matthews for starting the rumour and the two have reconciled.
