6. Austin Powers
Woah, what's this ginormous franchise about, then?Austin Powers is a movie franchise consisting of three pictures, all of which were conceived so that Mike Myers could make fun of the English, mocking their bad teeth and funny accents, whilst almost paying homage to an abundance of spy movie tropes, including those which frequently appear in the James Bond flicks. The first movie in the franchise, subtitled
International Man of Mystery, was a roaring success, is considered to be a relative comedy classic of its time, and saw bumbling English spy Austin Powers going up against Dr. Evil.
And it should quit? Why? None of the
Austin Powers movies are considered to be masterpieces, and that's because they aren't even close to being masterpieces - in fact, they probably get worse and worse as they go on. Still, if you're a fan of the series, then you likely find all three movies to be pretty darn funny, which is why it's nerve-wracking to hear that Mike Myers is thinking about getting Austin out of the closet for another spin. Just 'cause, you know... why not? Thing is, despite the varying degrees of quality inherent to this franchise at large, the third and last movie,
Goldmember, wasn't bad enough to ruin the series in the eyes of its actual fans - as a result, we all still remember Austin Powers with the right amount of fondness. It'd be a real shame to cobble together a sequel for the sake of it, then, don't you think? If you've seen
The Love Guru, you'll definitely agree with me.
