5. Mission: Impossible
Woah, what's this ginormous franchise about, then? The
Mission: Impossible franchises consists of a bunch of loosely connected action movies, all of which could probably have been separate entities if they really wanted to be, but someone decided to link them all together by way of Tom Cruise, who keeps reprising a secret agent character called Ethan Hunt, who has no discernible personality. Every movie in the franchise is based around the idea of an "impossible mission," one which Ethan and his team must firstly attempt to accomplish before they actually accomplish it, bringing light to the fact that the mission wasn't all that impossible, after all. There have been four movies thus far: two and a half were good.
And it should quit? Why? The most noticeable thing about this franchise is that the movies have gotten better with each installment, culminating in what was one of the best action movies of recent times in the fourth entry,
Ghost Protocol, which came out in 2011 and impressed all who laid eyes upon it. That happened because it was directed by Brad Bird (of Pixar frame), who has what I like to call "the magic touch," which means that the franchise should rightly end before a new director gets hired. Oh, wait: the guy who directed
Jack Reacher has stepped in for the fifth movie already, assuring fans that the next one will start a new trend where each installment gets progressively worse.
