10 Glorious Deaths In Forgettable Films
2. Lt. Colonel Austin's Sacrifice (Executive Decision)
When Kurt Russel and Steven Seagal join forces to safely bring down a plane that has been hijacked by terrorists who plan on releasing a bomb, filled with nerve gas, on Washington D.C.
If the stars were alligned then this film could have been an action/thriller in the vein of Die Hard. Unfortunately, the end product didn't exactly scale those dizzying heights.
However, in terms of glorious sacrifices, this feature includes one of the finest.
After docking with the hijacked plane via experimental 'Remora F117x', Seagals' Lt. Colonel Austin Travis risks his own life to guarantee the safe passage of his men onto the aircraft due to the Remora taking too much pressure from the thunderous turbulence. Travis' risk paid off, as he managed to close off the tunnel and salvage the mission, but the act costs him his life and he is hurled out into the open air.
A simply gut-wrenching moment that has been entombed in the annals of mediocrity.
Travis' sacrifice is a thoroughly moving beat in a film that is watchable, if not renowned.
