10 God-Awful Horror Films (With Amazing Kills)
2. Anaconda
Anaconda has all the tropes of a B-movie. Cheesy one-liners. Actors who are there just to collect their paycheck. An unconvincing CGI snake. An unconvincing animatronic snake. And of course, Jon Voight overacting like his life depends on it.
But if you can push through the derivative dialogue and dull performances, you'll be wowed by the imaginative methods our titular antagonist offs its prey. When the anaconda clamps onto Warren's head in mid-fall, it's a perfect money-shot. When you see Gary's face pressing into the killer constrictor's bulging stomach, you can feel your spine tingle.
Of course, there's no way you can discuss Anaconda without mentioning how Jon Voight's Paul Serone gets the chop. When our reptilian foe corners Paul, it coils around him, grinding his bones to dust. Left utterly helpless, the 40ft long serpent swallows the Paraguayan hunter whole.
However, it seems Paul doesn't agree with the snake's tummy, since it pukes him up minutes later. Just before he drops dead, the saliva-slathered poacher gives Jennifer Lopez's character a cheeky wink.
Anaconda may be a big pile of dumb, but it does conclude with one of the most memorable movie deaths of the '90s.
