10 Golden Rules of Horror Movies That Characters Never Obey

8. Assume The Monster Isn't Dead

At some point near the end of every horror movie, the remaining character(s) finally defeats the monster. They pat themselves on the back in sweet relief; all the while the audience knows that the monster isn€™t dead. We€™ve seen enough horror movies to know that it will come back for one last scare, which it does. The monster rises back into frame, surprising only the characters, and they are forced to continue fighting back. Many characters will even go so far as to stick their face into the monster€™s and start poking it, just to make sure. All too often the character leaves the monster largely unharmed, often stopping just short of dealing a death blow. There are so many instances where a simple head shot would end it all, but for some reason the character assumes their dead enough. Upon defeating the monster, horror characters should either get out of there as fast as possible or finish the job. Instead they slump to the ground and relax while the monster stands back up in the background. To survive, always assume that the monster isn€™t dead when it appears so.
