One of the most iconic and shocking opening sequences in horror film history takes place in Wes Craven's delightful meta horror flick Scream. Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) receives a phone call from an apparent prank caller, beginning with his usual "What's your favorite scary movie?" shtick and talking to her about horror movies, before things turn sinister and her boyfriend Steve ends up being disemboweled by the killer, Ghostface. Ghostface attacks her and gives chase as she flees, leading to the big surprise nobody expected: she's violently stabbed to death while her parents listen on the phone, and her parents then discover her hung from a tree with her intestines hanging out. Charming. Satisfaction Rating: 9/10. The strong shock factor made this one a classic celebrity death scene and one that put viewers on edge from the outset: given that nobody expected an up-and-comer like Barrymore to feature in such a small role in a major horror movie, anything could happen. The death itself is disturbing, bloody, and not what we were used to seeing happen to Bjergen Kjergen from Wayne's World 2.
