10 Great Actors Never Nominated For An Oscar
4. Jeff Goldblum
One of the renowned Neighbourhood Playhouse’s most famous graduates, the Grandmaster of Sakaar has won over audiences for decades with his comedic timing, eccentric delivery and wide variety of blockbuster smashes and cult classic favourites in his filmography.
Whilst the '90s proved to be Goldblum’s most lucrative decade as a movie star, with lead roles in megahits such as Jurassic Park and Independence Day, it is in the '80s that we find some of the best showcases for his talent.
With David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986), Goldblum bagged the Saturn Award for Best Actor for his tragic, increasingly horrific take on the Seth Brundle character and his sickening transformation into a fly/human hybrid. Also of note are his performances as journalist Michael Gold in the comedy drama The Big Chill (1983) and his hilarious work as sleepless engineer Ed Okin in the polarising Into The Night (1985).
Best known and loved for playing a variety of funny, often charming eccentrics, Goldblum revealed a villainous side to his acting and further established his wide range as a performer for his work work as the titular character in Mister Frost, a Satanic chiller released in 1990.
Of note is that Goldblum’s 1996 short film Little Surprises did receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short but the man himself is yet to receive acknowledgement of his on screen work.
