Associated grandeur aside, Hopkins hasn't shown himself to be particularly good at choosing worthwhile film projects. He tends to make bad movies at the exact same rate that he makes passable ones. Not what you'd expect from the man who brought home an Oscar for 15 minutes screen-time in The Silence of the Lambs, huh? The problem with Hopkins is that he is very prone to "hamming it up - something of a leftover from his days appearing on stage, perhaps? This works when he's cast in a role that requires such lengths, but can derail a movie when it isn't necessary. At least Hopkins doesn't have the sense of an actor who just appears in anything for the sake of it, though, which is something of a saving grave.
