You can't really have a list of great Asian horror movies without including at least one anime. That'd just be wrong.

To call 1987's Lily C.A.T. an Alien clone would be both truthful and inaccurate. The settings and plot are relatively the same on paper. A crew of people working for a corrupt corporation on a spaceship must survive against an ever-evolving extraterrestrial threat. There's even a cat thrown in too.

What makes this flick different however, is the way it takes advantage of the possibilities of anime as a medium. From grotesque body horror to veins being ripped right out of people's bodies, there are some visuals in the movie that will leave you nauseated. The '80s style animation gives the film a retro throwback look that serves to make what you're seeing feel all the more otherworldly.

While the writing and characters are for sure lacking in many ways, the horror and science fiction elements do an incredible job of making up for them. If you're looking for some solid space scares, Lily C.A.T. has you covered.
