10 Great Asian Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen
7. Train To Busan
This is arguably the best movie on this list. The only reason it isn't placed higher is because, when compared to other movies on here, it's fairly well known.
Train to Busan follows a group of passengers on a train in South Korea attempting to survive during a surprise zombie outbreak. If you have zombie fatigue, don't let that plot synopsis discourage you, as this one is something truly special.
In a sub-genre as oversaturated as zombies, it's an admirable feat for movie to bring something new to the table. While the undead here are pretty terrifying in their relentlessness, that's not what makes this such a rare gem of a flick.
This is a movie that, at its core, is about people. But, instead of feeding into the overused theme of humans being the real monster, it opts for a more balanced approach. It's not naively optimistic or overly cyclical, rather it shows what makes us human by putting on display the absolute best and worst people are capable of. This is horror with heart at its finest, and will have you tearing up at its beauty as much as cringing at its violence.
