10 Great Asian Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

2. May The Devil Take You

Think of Timo Tjahjanto May The Devil Take You as a modern Evil Dead. That may sound like hyperbole, but this Indonesian horror flick earns that comparison.

A father makes a pact with the devil for money and fame, but fails to pay up to his end of the bargain. As he lies dying years later, his family finds themselves suffering for his sins.

Much like The Evil Dead, the practical effects and gore are top notch and plentiful. That's not where the comparison ends however. Protagonist Alfie feels like a similar hero to Ash Williams with the amount of unholy crazy she has to go through. We as the viewer see her getting pushed further and further to the brink of madness, and want nothing more than for her to catch a break.

Where this flick really shines though is the last half-hour or so. The entire movie is great, but the third act is a chef's kiss of bloody horror perfection. It's like a rollercoaster ride of violent insanity that'll have you wanting to share it with your friends.
