10 Great (But Unexpected) Uses Of Music In Movies

5. Stuck In The Middle With You (Reservoir Dogs)

reservoirdogsear The Quentin Tarantino classic Reservoir Dogs is a violence-fuelled crime epic which really shouldn't fit with the Stealers Wheel track Stuck in the Middle With You, which was described as a "Dylanesque, pop, bubble-gum favorite". However, it does - it fits wonderfully. In the movie, Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) has taken a police officer, Marvin Nash (Kirk Baltz), hostage. After Mr. Blonde is left alone with Nash, who has already been beaten quite severely, he pulls out a straight razor and turns on the radio. Stuck in the Middle With You begins playing as Mr. Blonde starts to slash at Nash with the razor, before brutally cutting off his ear as the song merrily plays away in the background. He then douses Nash with petrol but is shot by Mr. Orange (Tim Roth) - himself an undercover police officer - before he can set him on fire. This scene was, undoubtedly, a moment of pure, unrequited Tarantino genius.
