10 Great (But Unexpected) Uses Of Music In Movies

4. Heart and Soul/Chopsticks (Big)

The charming Tom Hanks classic Big follows Hanks' character Josh Baskin as he deals with suddenly becoming an adult, following a wish he made on a "Zoltar Speaks" machine. Having come to terms with his predicament, Josh obtains a job as a data entry clerk at a place called MacMillan Toy Company. By sheer chance, Josh runs into the company's owner, Mr. MacMillan (Robert Loggia), at FAO Schwarz, and impresses him with both his extensive insight into current toys and his happy-go-lucky childlike enthusiasm (characteristics that are hardly surprising, given that he is, in fact, a child). The two end up playing an impromptu duet together on a giant foot-operated electronic keyboard, performing Heart and Soul and Chopsticks. This chance encounter earns Josh a promotion to a dream job: testing toys all day long and getting paid for it. It is a wonderful scene and the performance is the most memorable part of the whole movie.
